The Fundamentals of Skin Banking: An Introductory Course
The Fundamentals of Skin Banking course is designed to provide an overview of Skin Banking procedures in accordance with the 12th Edition of AATB Standards and industry practices required for the performance of functions related to the general Screening and Procurement of Skin Tissue. This course was developed with the collaborative efforts of LifeCell Corporation, a KCI Company and the New England Organ Bank.
The Fundamentals of Skin Banking course was designed with universal modules. This will allow users the flexibility of mastering the content requirements for a myriad of Skin Processors. Additionally, this course also provides a distinct module providing an overview on the Science and Technology of skin processing at LifeCell Corporation, a KCI Company.
This course has been developed to provide the new tissue bank employee with an introductory overview to Screening and Procurement of Skin Tissue as well as an overview in the Science and Technology of skin processing at LifeCell Corporation, a KCI Company. This course should be used in conjunction with existing training and development programs that allow the employee to demonstrate the ability to use this knowledge in the context of their specific job function and within their own work setting. It should be noted that tissue banks may have additional criteria that will exclude tissue donation and transplantation beyond what is acceptable per the FDA regulations and/or the AATB standards, and therefore beyond what is reflected in this course. Completion of this course will, therefore, provide a foundation from which additional knowledge sets can be built upon.
A special note of thanks to American Association of Tissue Banks for granting permission to use excerpts from the 12th Edition of Standards for Tissue Banking.
